m-0nii asked: i wanted to ask you something, i asked my boss at work to change my nametag at work to my chosen name, insted of my given name, and he said its agenst policy and can't. i mean its not like i work at the white house. i work at lubys which is a restaurant. is there any legal standings i have to use? my boss is known for being sexest and Homophobic.
K: I could be wrong but I believe they don’t legally have to, or probably can’t change your name on the system or name tag, until you’ve legally changed your name.

I work for Lowe’s Home Improveemt and when I approached my HR Manager about changing my nametag from Emily to Dylon, she said it was company policy that they couldn’t change even my name tag until I had it legally changed with the Social Security Administration by company…

there is no such law. people use nicknames on nametags all the time. he’s just being a douche. you have to keep your legal name for getting paid and all of that, but a name tag is a piece of plastic and he’s just an ass.

Also, if you really want to fight it, you could call HR. They will likely force him to comply since it’s an easy fix, but it can make working with him difficult. I had to do that at a job and ended up quitting bc of issues that came from calling HR.
